Canon Collins Trust and Edinburgh Business School Distance Learning MBA Scholarships



Edinburgh Business School (EBS) is part of Heriot-Watt University, the eighth oldest higher education institution in the UK. EBS is the Graduate School of Business at the university. EBS is one of the world’s largest international business schools and currently has over 7,000 students across the world, along with over 11,000 alumni.

Edinburgh Business School (EBS), together with Canon Collins Trust, has created the EBS MBA Scholarship Programme

  • to enable future leaders of sub-Saharan Africa to gain one of the world’s best business qualifications
  • to build and consolidate the reputation of EBS as the pre-eminent provider of distance learning for business
  • to build a network of EBS alumni throughout sub-Saharan Africa

Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis but successful applicants will be able to show that they are committed to using the knowledge, training and skills acquired on the MBA programme for the general benefit of their home community and country.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of:

  • intellectual ability
  • evidence of national and/or regional commitment
  • future impact
  • financial need

Am I eligible?

To win an EBS MBA Scholarship, applicants must:

  • be a national of a Sub-Saharan African country
  • be resident in a Sub-Saharan African country
  • have a bachelors degree or ACCA
  • be at least 25 years old at the time of starting the module (intakes in February and July each year)
  • Not have already registered for the EBS MBA.

Further Details

  • The Edinburgh Business School (EBS) MBA Scholarship is for the distance learning MBA only.
  • The MBA is comprised of 9 modules; 7 core modules and 2 elective modules.
  • Successful scholars will be required to complete one module in each of their first two semesters. Following successful completion of two modules the scholar may, if agreed by EBS,  be able to study more than one module concurrently.
  • Students should expect the MBA to take at least 4 years to complete.
  • Each module is assessed by examination only (i.e. no assignments, no continuous assessment). Exams run every 6 months at examinations centres throughout Africa.
  • The examination for the first module must be attempted within nine months of the award.
  • Modules may be completed in any order. On successful completion of the module, EBS will allow the scholar to choose his or her next module.

  • Awards are non-transferable

The scholarship award will be deemed to continue so long as the scholar

  • passes each module at the first attempt
  • continues to live in sub-Saharan Africa and
  • is not in breach of any university regulations in force at any given time.

Application Deadline :

We accept applications for distance learning MBA scholarships all year round. In order for your application to be assessed in the next round, we must receive it by the deadline of 31st March 2011.

Application Process

Complete the application form carefully and send the following documents with the application form:

  • Certified copy of undergraduate degree certificate
  • Certified copy university academic transcript
  • One passport size photo with the applicant’s name clearly written on the back
  • One academic reference
  • One employment reference
  • One payslip from the last three months
