MBA Programs at University of Chicago Graduate School of Business



Known as Chicago GSB, University of Chicago Graduate School of Business is the second oldest business school in the United States. Chicago GSB has also been recognized for the fact that six of their faculty members have won Nobel Prizes. That comes out of their effective approach to business.

Chicago GSB, with their great belief in innovative ideas, offers three majors programs, Full-time, Part-time (Evening and Weekend) and Executive MBA. The Full-time MBA is ranked number one in Business Week, while the Part-time one number seven and the Executive one number three. Such a great achievement indeed.

The Programs

  • Full Time MBA
    The 21-month full-time program offers a flexible curriculum covering 13 concentrations (Accounting, Analytic Finance, Econometrics and Statistics, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, General Management, Human Resource Management, International Business, Managerial and Organizational Behavior, Marketing Management, Operations Management, and Strategic Management). The students are given the opportunity to elect three to six classes from the 13 areas of concentration. The recommended annual budgets for both residents and non-residents are $ 75,848.
  • Part-Time MBA
    More famous as “Evening and Weekend MBA,” this program would fit well with busy professionals who wish to pursue their education. The flexibility of this program allows students to manage their work, study and personal life. Even those with lots of travel schedule can maintain the classes well. The Tuition and Fees—based on six credits in the fall and six credits in the spring—both for residents and non-residents are $ 15,729.
  • Executive MBA
    This superb program—with campuses on three continents, North America (Chicago), Asia (Singapore), and Europe (London)—helps students be part of the worldwide, world-class community. The students are given the opportunity to spend the required residential periods on all three of the school’s campuses. The Tuition and Fees for the entire EMBA program both for residents and non-residents are $ 120,000.

Leadership Effectiveness and Development (LEAD)

In their first quarter, the Students of Full-time and Part-time programs are required to take the Leadership Effectiveness and Development (LEAD) class to develop their management competences. Taking this class, students would have a better knowledge and skills on negotiating, team building, giving feedback, motivating people, building relationships, and influencing outcomes.

Joint Degree

Chicago GSB offers Joint Degree programs that allow the students to go beyond MBA. Taking the program, students will have a comprehensive idea and a better approach to problem solving which are not only related to finance and business but also other fields such as law, medicine, public policy, or social services administration.

The Faculty Members

The faculty members of GSB are professors who challenge their students to debate ideas, put theories to the test and defend solutions. They are also available outside the classroom.

Some of the notable faculty members are Gary Becker, Nobel prize winning economist, considered to have coined “human capital” and “rotten kid theorem,” known for price theory; Ronald Coase, Nobel prize winning economist, known for work in contract theory; George Shultz, economist and former dean, also former U.S. Secretary of Labor, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, and U.S. Secretary of State; James O. McKinsey, founder of McKinsey & Company in 1926, pioneered budgeting as a management tool; and many more.

The Alumni

With a global network of over 40,000 alumni in 94 countries, Chicago GSB offers an excellent alumni community. They consist of 5,400 CEOs and top officers of leading companies in the world such as JPMorgan, Pfizer, Gilette, John Deere, etc; public sector executives who work for government agencies; and many more.

There are many activities held by the Alumni Clubs that can be found within the US and around the world.
