The Bangor Business School Postgraduate Scholarships 2010



The Bangor Business School at Bangor University is a leading teaching and research focused business school offering a full range of disciplines from undergraduate to doctoral level.

BANGOR BUSINESS SCHOOL POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

1. ANNIVERSARY SCHOLARSHIPS: PHD

Bangor Business School is offering 1 PhD Anniversary Studentship and 1 PhD Anniversary Bursary. Areas of research that the school is particularly interested in encouraging applications to include, but are not limited to:

Accounting, Banking and Finance:

Anniversary Scholarships Application Procedure

The application deadline is 30 April and we expect to inform applicants of the outcome of their applications by 1 June.

To apply, please complete an on-line University Postgraduate Application Form available here.

To complete an application, you must include with the Postgraduate Application Form a statement of not more than 500 words of how you could contribute to and develop the chosen research project. You should include reference to relevant previous experience, including both academic study and other experience.

* YOU MUST MAKE CLEAR that you are applying for a Bangor University Anniversary Scholarship by writing ‘ANNIVERSARY SCHOLARSHIP’ then THE PROJECT TITLE in answer to Question 3, under Check list Item 5 ‘Are you applying for a Bangor University advertised research project / studentship? If so, please write the full project title here:’

Guidance Notes for Anniversary Research Scholarship Applicants

1) The scholarships consist of studentships and bursaries Studentships are worth more money than bursaries.

2) Applications are accepted from UK/EU and International scholars

3) The scholarships are only open to applicants who have not already started their PhD studies at Bangor

4) The scholarships normally provide funding for a three year full-time programme of study.

5) Successful applicants are expected to submit their PhD thesis within a year from the end of the funding period.

6) Value

Studentships provide:

  • An annual stipend (for 2010/2011 this is £13,000)
  • An annual research allowance of £1,500 against which students can claim for approved expenditure related to their research. This must be incurred and claimed in accordance with the University’s financial procedures for such expenditure.
  • Studentship holders do not pay fees

Bursaries provide:

  • An annual stipend of £7,000
  • Bursary holders are required to pay fees

2. GOLD AND SILVER SCHOLARSHIPS

Bangor Business School operates two scholarship schemes, which provide financial support for full-time students on all MSc, MA and MBA programmes (find out more about our postgraduate programmes):

  • BBS Gold Scholarship £5,000 per annum,
  • BBS Silver Scholarship £2,000 per annum.

The number of Gold and Silver Scholarship awards vary from year to year, but normally a small number of Gold Scholarships and a larger number of Silver Scholarships are available. All students are entitled to apply for both types of Scholarships, however students will only receive one award. We do not consider country of origin when determining the recipients of Scholarship awards.

To be eligible to apply for a Scholarship, you must be applying for or have already been offered a place on one of the following taught postgraduate degree programmes:

  • MA / MSc Banking and Finance
  • MA / MSc Finance
  • MA/ MSc Business and Finance
  • MA/MSc Islamic Banking and Finance
  • MA/MSc Business with Consumer Psychology
  • MSc International Banking and Development Finance
  • MSc Accounting and Finance
  • MA Business and Marketing
  • MA Banking and Law
  • MBA Marketing
  • MBA Banking and Finance
  • MBA Management
  • MBA Banking and Law
  • MBA Law and Management

All applicants will be advised by email of the outcome of their application for entry onto an academic programme. Applicants who have been made an offer of entry will receive the Scholarship Application Pack from the Bangor Business School in that same email message. Those who have not provided an email address on the application form will be contacted by letter. The Scholarship Application Pack will include:

  • details of the gold and silver scholarship scheme
  • details of how to apply
  • a scholarship application form

Applicants are required to give details of their academic achievements, personal achievements and give their reasons for applying for a scholarship from the Bangor Business School. Scholarships will be awarded on the strength of applications received. Whilst academic achievement is a key criterion a broad view of each candidate’s academic, work experience and life achievements will be considered.

There are two deadlines for application:

  • Interim deadline: 1 March
  • Final deadline: 1 June

Applications received by the 1st March will be considered in the first round of awards. Successful candidates will be informed of the outcome by the 31st March. Any candidates who have not been successful in the first round, will be submitted for further consideration after the final deadline of 1st June.

Applications received between the 1st March and 1st June will be considered for scholarship after the 1st June deadline. Successful candidates will be informed of the outcome by the 15th June.

UK/EU FULL TUITION FEE SCHOLARSHIPS

2009/2010 award: £5,000

This scholarship scheme provides financial support, equivalent to the tuition fee for UK / EU students, to highly qualified students on selected MSc and MA programmes at Bangor Business School.
To be eligible to be considered for a UK / EU Full Tuition Fee Scholarship, you must satisfy each of the following criteria:

  • be classified as a UK / EU student for tuition-fee status purposes
  • be awarded a BA/BSc degree within the three years prior to September 2008, with a classification of 2.1 or above (or equivalent from a non-UK university).
  • enrol as a full-time student
  • have been offered a place on one of the following Bangor Business School taught postgraduate degree programmes:
    • MSc Accounting and Finance
    • MA / MSc Banking and Finance
    • MA / MSc Business and Finance
    • MA Business and Marketing
    • MA / MSc Finance
    • MSc International Banking and Development Finance
    • MA / MSc Islamic Banking and Finance

The number of scholarship awards varies from year to year, but it is anticipated that between five and ten awards will be made this year.

There are two deadlines for application:

  • Interim deadline: 1 March
  • Final deadline: 1 June

This scholarship does not apply to any other Masters degrees offered wholly or jointly by Bangor Business School that appear in our brochures and on our webpages.

LOYALTY FEE REDUCTIONS FOR BANGOR GRADUATES

If you’re a Bangor University Alumni (either recent graduate or studied with us many years ago) then you’re also eligible for a discount on your fees should you choose to study for your postgraduate qualification with the Bangor Business School. If you’re an International applicant we’ll give you an automatic discount of £1500 on your fees and a £1000 reduction on your fees if you’re resident within the EU.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants wishing to apply for Undergraduate and Postgraduate taught programmes may be eligible for the ‘International Scholarship’ This is awarded as a tuition fee reduction of up to £1500 for each academic year of study and is given on the basis of academic excellence. There are a number of scholarships available for the 2008/09 academic year.

The University also offers a Research International Scholarship of up to £1500 reduction in fees.
