University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business



Located within a 2.5-hour drive of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, MD, and Richmond, VA Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport, University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business makes a great place to get an MBA degree—especially for professionals.

Having been awarded for its superb MBA Program, Darden offers a unified curriculum and an intensive learning experience.

The Programs

The Darden School have two main MBA programs, Full-time MBA and MBA Exec.

  • Full-time MBA
    The program with total direct costs (tuition and required fees) of $ 75,000 for residents and $ 85,000 for non-residents requires at least a 21-month group of courses. Yet, the classes will not simply be a collection of courses. Instead, students of this program will be asked to analyse cases with individual preparation and small group discussion. Not only will students learn the theory and techniques emphasizing functional skills, but also the application in a real business setting. In the first year, students experience a group of 10 interrelated introductory classes. In the second year, students have a more flexibility selection of courses consisting of 20 classes with a great variety in courses and types of experiences.
  • MBA Exec
    The Darden School understands the need of professionals to further their education without having to quit their job and provides them with an MBA Executive Program. Ranked by the Financial Times as No. 1 in course design, faculty, and senior-level open programs, MBA Exec offers two options of residential sessions, Thursday to Saturday or Friday to Saturday every third weekend. Students will also able to experience distance learning with faculty and other students as well as attend four extended residencies on site and at an international location. This 22-month program is not only executive-friendly because of its flexible calendar, but also out of its location that can be reached within only a 2.5-hour drive of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, MD, and Richmond, VA Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport. Those who travel a lot won’t find any difficulty in reaching the school.

The Learning Process

The Darden School offers a case method based on a Four-Step Learning Process. First, the learning team consisting of five to six students learn and dwell on a case. Then, they discuss and work together on the case. Third, with the professor’s aid, in the class students explore inputs on the case. And last, students focus on the synthesis and reflection of the case. The case method allows students to have a complete understanding and integration of the materials.

Faculty and Research

With their intention to provide only the best for the students, members of the Darden Faculty offer a sincere and personal commitment to teaching. Not only that, these professors who have such a huge experience in leading corporations, influential organizations, as well as government agencies both in the U.S. and abroad, are also devoted the student’s personal and professional progress.

They also perform researches that improve the quality of Darden’s educational programs, help both students and practicing managers to comprehend the process of business and management better, and fortify its status as a center of learning and discovery.

The Application Requirements

The Darden School requires the applicants to submit their GMAT score (there is no minimum score, yet the average GMAT was 688), TOEFL score (for non-native speaker), a business résumé and an academic c.v., essays answering the required questions, recommendations (work-related and academic-related recommendations, yet the work-related one is considered better), transcripts and visa information (for international students).

After the application is submitted and reviewed by the Admissions Committee, the applicants will be interviewed. Candidates living abroad may visit Darden for the interview, yet it is not obligatory.
